A routine excursion onto the European continent at first appears an ideal opportunity for Edwin Ramsett--a gentle-mannered Londoner still naïve of that most acute malevolence that so permeates the darkest corners of human existence. He soon encounters wickedness so foreign and so destructive that his psyche is forever altered.
