Harry Potter And The God Of Love: Reflections Of A Catholic Deacon

An examination from a Catholic point of view of the Christian themes within the Harry Potter book series. The essay looks at the religious controversy as well as at the nature of magic in the books and the themes of love, death and self sacrifice.The essay also examines the disturbing lack of a Christian presence in most of the books, even when one would be expected, and the problems of alleged euthanasia in the last book. It agrees with Cardinal George Pell that the books contain sound moral and philosophical lessons and are 'a good yarn'.
