This is a long tale about a young woman’s search for her own true sexual identity. Since some of the characters are based upon real people I have met, some becoming good friends, I have changed all the names to protect the innocent. My roommate in graduate school was very much like Carol Ann in this story. Many of the experiences in this book are based upon things that happened to her, including the difficulty of “Coming Out” in the society of several years ago. And while you might be tempted to look for vacation rentals on Pirates Beach (see chapters 3 and 6), don't bother. I made it up as a convenient stand-in for several different places around Florida.
You may notice that the chapters are written from different points of view and/or in different tones. The chapters developed their own moods, so I let the story tell me how to write each one. I hope that you find this more helpful than distracting, and that you enjoy reading my story as much as I enjoyed writing it.
It is true that most women are at least curious about having a relationship or perhaps a one night affair with another woman. Many never take that step and experiment and fewer still will ever be an out in the open lesbian. Yet those that have that intrinsic desire for a woman and have now physical interest in any male often have a very difficult time in our society to “Come Out”. In this story Carol Ann is bi-sexual curious and it takes several friends and various experiences for her to learn that although men can be fun and enjoyable, it takes another female for her to become completely satisfied sexually.
