WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT THIS
In this provocative book, the author explores ethical and practical aspects of a form of human enhancement called private eugenics, one of the many names given to current and future practices in the area of assisted human procreation.

She does not shy away from difficult questions. Why do we have so much trouble accepting ourselves and each other, for instance? She argues for caution and points out that technological progress sometimes leads to mistakes that can be hard to correct once made.

She also tackles the difficult task of defining “a life not worth living” and arrives at a practical universal guideline for the application of private eugenics that is bound to raise a lot of protest from all sides of the debate, but will also spark some appreciation and gratitude.

She argues for the creation of a new international category of legal personality for pre-embryos, embryos and fetuses up to 24 weeks, for a practice based on the principle of non-discrimination, for testing for a wide variety of conditions (including certain infections) at birth as well as for treatment and more support from the get-go.

The second edition of this publication is already in the works. If you purchased the first edition, you can get the e-version of the second edition from the author at no extra cost.
