Grace and Flair: A Sample of Ho Xuan Huong's Poetry

This free ebook contains a sample of the famous Vietnamese poetess Hồ Xuân Hương's poetry, including the English translations of thirty-three out of the sixty-one Nôm poems extracted from my other book titled "Grace and Flair: Three Vietnamese Poetesses." The poems included here serve as an introduction to Hồ Xuân Hương's bold and defiant commentaries on various aspects of life and, most of all, the social injustice which women of the feudal era had to endure, as well as display to a certain extent her clever, punny, erudite and irreverent verses filled humorous wordplay and numerous innuendoes.
