African Union

African Union has a bright future, although it has a bad history.

It all began during the Congo Crisis in 1962/1963 when the African States started making some efforts to have one large organization that would strongly unite them.

The Congo Crisis burst out because the people of Congo wanted independence, but the Belgians that colonized them were against that.

When Belgium suddenly granted independence to Congo, there was an unhealthy rivalry among the ethnic groups in Congo.

War broke out, the United Nations sent soldiers to Congo.

The United Nations’ soldiers on peacekeeping turned against Patrice Lumumba, an African patriot and the then Premier of Congo.
The African States tried to save Lumumba and help Congo, but these States did not succeed because they were not united.
