Despite knowing his beloved eldest son is unworthy of the throne, King Balathaar does injustice to his citizens and the realm. He leaves his four-island kingdom divided into three parts between his three sons for them to rule in their own dissimilar ways.
The eldest of the three, Shilathaar, given one island, considers himself to be the rightful heir to the throne and all four islands as he is first-born. He is strong, cruel and imprudent.
The second eldest, Grygerious, also given one island, is cunning, cowardly and conniving. He is feeble, treacherous, and a doctor of deception and conspiracies. He too, desires to rule all four islands.
The youngest, Dymondo, given two islands, is strong, capable, righteous, kind, just and impartial. He has no desire to rule all four islands.
