Given that more and more people, particularly children and young adults, are being foisted into a failing, pill-pushing 'Mental Hellth' system, it behooves us to take a long hard look at the type of 'care' they are receiving. This is a collection of poems written by a psychiatric survivor, witnessing the abusive, highly coercive and drug-orientated psychiatric state first hand in all its unholy awfulness. Both angry and resigned, (but with a passionate zeal for freedom and reform) ; from scathing diatribes, such as 'All Quiet On The Frontal Lobes', to lilting hymns to lunacy, such as 'Ode To Lunacy' and 'Hymn To The Medicated Messiah', through to more understated, reflective pieces like 'Community Nurse', and even mythic tales of woe such as the Smashing-Pumpkins inspired 'Cherub Rock', to positive, hopeful advice to fellow psych. inmates 'You', this compendium runs the gamut of emotions, finally bringing things to a close with 'Lost In The Fray', a poignant and sad summation of this first installment of poems by the proud 'madman' Max James Lewy.
