After Dark: The Cabin

“OPEN THE FUCKING DOOR.”

Mabel’s legs stiffened in reaction to the low voice roaring the command with undisguised menace. She whimpered softy. Recently divorced, she had escaped to the idyllic cabin to be alone and to find peace. Instead, the once trophy wife felt the heavy sensation of paralysis and isolation as the figure gave the door a brutal kick.
Her hands flew to her mouth, stifling a scream.
The figure moved. A sheet of soft moonlight hit the window and spilled onto the cabin’s mostly wooden floor. Its milky presence soothed Mabel. Somehow, the wash of light in the darkness made her feel strong. The moment of reprieve vanished as the dark silhouette moved again, severing the light. A dull clang caught Mabel’s attention. Her ears strained to zoom in and collect more information. She watched the figure concentrate his movement near the door handle. Oh god! The lock. Mabel knew that it offered no real protection and that in a matter of seconds, he would be inside.

Mabel has found sanctuary on a mountain. Alone, in her small cabin, she’s trying to put her past behind her. But, then, one night, her past catches up to her. A strange man breaks into her refuge and she knows that her life will be over if she doesn’t offer something he can’t refuse.
It will take everything she has to survive the night and the man who came to her mountain.
