Doreen Patrick, capable girl-friday at Sunset Investigations, isn't so capable after her neighbor's young son is kidnapped. She is far beyond frustrated, which could cause Detectives RYAN and CURTIS major headaches. Then again, it was Mrs. P. who turned up the information that the prime suspect was not only the victim's uncle, but a convicted child molester as well.

Another case begins with a death on the production line at a candy factory. Drowning in liquid chocolate is not a sweet way to go. Explosions, personal threats, the helpful factory owner, rookie Kerby Kalko protesting the order to dress like a woman, and a second murder. Only the clues of delicious chocolate elves are appreciated.
