They Wanted Lincoln Dead

There were two plans to kill Lincoln on April, 14th:
1) For the most part, the South voted for the Democratic Party and the North voted Republican. Lincoln wanted to forgive the South and allow them to return with their voting rights intact. The South’s large democratic voting block meant the end of the Republican Party’s control of the government. Lincoln’s promise of forgiveness was totally reprehensible to the Radical Republicans. Lincoln had to be stopped and Edwin Stanton was their man to do it.
2) Vice-President, Andrew Johnson, wanted to be president. He found an assassin willing to kill Lincoln.
