Magic is back.The airwaves are dead, silent. No radio, TV, Wi-Fi, sat-nav. At night the streets and countryside fall silent as netherworld creatures emerge to seek out human flesh. Magicians fight for survival in a world where they are hunted down as terrorists, executed or turned into mindless slaves.

Girls are born with their powers so are tested at birth and taken away to prison laboratories. When Lizzy escapes a prison ambulance inferno that kills three prison guards, she becomes a fugitive wanted for murder.
Boys develop their powers of magic in late adolescence. The day Chris, a petty criminal from a tenement block, is told he's a sorcerer, his tenement home is devastated by a magical explosion and he's framed for the slaughter.
