A crisis in the Kingdom of Partha brings Archer and Aradia to the snowbound Himalays to save a scientific expedition from a distant planet from a colony of great white apes. Volka, leader of the Arndi, convinced the son of Partha's crystal master to bring him one of Partha's space ships that provide the community essential technical support.
Asked to retrieve the stolen space ship, Archer and Aradia quickly learn it's not possible to travel through the crystal ball to Volka's stronghold. The Arndi's lust for blood makes it impossible for outsiders to reach, or survive, a visit to their home in the mountain overlooking Partha. But that isn't the only reason they can't travel through the crystal ball. Before Fire Sled can find its way home, Archer and Aradia must travel through the mountain in the parallel world to enable the ship to pull the coordinates from their memory so it can find its way home.
This extraordinary tale takes on a new twist after Archer and Aradia arrive at the mountain village in the parallel world. Mylo, the innkeeper, and Shopel, the village story teller, tell them the Yeti visit their dreams and tell them about two strangers fitting Archer and Aradia's descriptions who will come to this mountain to help the yeti find their lost ones. But before they leave the village, Shopel's cryptic remark makes Archer doubt the outcome of their journey when the old storyteller announces, "The yeti wait to help those who bring a gift of snow."
