IF YOU HAD A MIND TO DESTROY HUMANITY,
HOW WOULD YOU GO ABOUT DOING IT?
Malcolm Anderson is a renowned psychic who has an apocalyptic vision of future events that are revealed to him during a lucid dream. As Malcolm looks on, a maniacal genius named Brian Zintak hatches a plan to wipe out the entire human race by developing a time machine and a genetically engineered monster – the "reaper" -- that will be transported into the past to carry out its genocidal mission. Malcolm is shown a way to prevent humanity's destruction, which is by kidnapping and raising as his own a boy named Jason Devine, a divinely appointed superhero who would have otherwise been unaware of his destiny. During the vision, special training methods are revealed to Malcolm, but the dream is interrupted before he is shown a crucial detail -- a weapon that will be essential to Jason in his fight against the reaper.
Malcolm emerges from the dream and begins to act upon what had been revealed to him, starting with the kidnapping and training of Jason. As the grueling years of preparation drag on, Malcolm and Jason each battle their own personal demons, including pain, grief, doubts, loneliness, and most of all, lingering fears about the missing weapon, and whether it will tilt the battlefield in the reaper's favor once that dreaded day arrives.
In the future, Zintak reaches adulthood and successfully transports the reaper into the past. Jason engages the reaper, and the battle for the survival of humanity begins. Are Jason's abilities enough to defeat reaper, or will the missing weapon ultimately prove too much to overcome? And even if Jason wins the battle, is the future really secure?
