Tarzan of the Apes is the story of an English lord, who, after the death of his stranded parents, was rescued by a motherly African ape who raised him as her own. Although small and weak by ape standards, Tarzan is a human of god-like strength and agility to the men who discover him. By studying these people, Tarzan gradually realizes he is not an ape after all, but a human.

When he meets Jane, a beautiful American girl marooned with her father and friends on the hostile coast of Africa, Tarzan falls in love with her. However, when Jane is rescued, Tarzan decides to follow her into the world of people – although he must cross continents and oceans to find her.
