The Journal of a College Student

The writer of this Journal is a hypothetical young man, but the experiences and attitudes which form the content of it are a fact; they come out of the lives of contemporary students in our colleges and universities. The religious pilgrimage here depicted, combining a particular set of influences and encounters, represents only a minority of students. But it cannot be over-stressed that this type of experience is widespread in our student population. Reliable evidence substantiates the frequent occurrence both of the dismantling of religious belief and of deeply-stirring "peak experiences."
