The Bosnian Student Project: A Response to Genocide

The Bosnian Student Project of the Fellowship of Reconciliation (FOR) helped more than 150 Bosnian students of all ethnic/religious backgrounds to escape from the war zone and continue their education in the US. Students who had been hated in Bosnia because of their religious heritage were welcomed into the homes of Americans of all ethnic and religious backgrounds. The program not only saved the lives of scores of excellent students, it also gave Americans something positive to do in the face of an overwhelming tragedy. The Bosnian Student Project enabled its American participants to affirm their commitment to pluralism and tolerance by working together with people of other religious traditions to love and accept young people who were the victims of war and genocide.
