The Place - Twenty-eight miles off the Carolina coast lies a tranquil island shaded by ancient Live Oaks draped in long gray beards of Spanish Moss swaying gently in ocean breezes.
The Time - Last month, last year – a decade ago. Then again, it could be next week, or a later Wednesday.
The Players -
Tap, is an ordinary fellow who destiny has chosen to deprive of ordinary days.
Sue, the beautiful island owner is anything but ordinary. Her desire is to share life's love with Tap.
Addie, Sue's sage housekeeper, walks quietly but carries a heavy whomping stick.
Ojiu, hell-bent on taking the island, steals through shadowed crevices as destiny's instrument, heightening Tap above the average and abolishing his commonplace life.
Journey within his mind as Tap and good friend, Bill Pritchett, sail from Hilton Head into the empyrean Atlantic Ocean. For Bill it's just another adventure; for Tap, it's a last-hope escape.
Hours into their voyage the elderly Bill succumbs to illness. Tap follows his instincts and loads the big man into a tiny life raft. Three waves, stacked twenty feet high, inundates the dinghy.
Tap awakens from his nightmarish tumble with the rogue wave in the care of Suzanne Devereau, a woman of true elegance which only fuels Tap's internal conflicts.
All too soon the couple find themselves running for their lives from Ojiu as he uses Tap's presence to rekindle the islanders' superstitions. And Bill is missing.
Tap defeats Ojiu's ultimate weapon, Amos, but the encounter lays Sue upon the lap of death.
Ojiu outfoxes Tap one more time and escapes, to be killed by another. But things are not always what they seem, are they?
