Audience -- Theater Seats

When the curtain opens, this play is over. "Audience" is a play about audience members, mainly young college students, arriving early at a Midwestern American town's evening theater performance of "singing and dancing." The time is 2010. It is presented in play format.
As the characters wait in their theater seats, the nine short stories of comedy and drama are told. The short stories (five comedies and four dramas) include the physical comedy of an indignant game of "Musical Chairs" in managing a boyfriend's wandering eye, the challenge of an awkward freshman reaching beyond his comfort zone to find a date, the conversation of two college guys trying to figure out women, the mismatched communication that nonetheless matches a couple, the mystery of an art student's theory about the occupant of the theater seat next to his seat; the comedy of a young man trapped between two quizzical elderly sisters, the poignant moment about a soldier's upcoming deployment; the story of the gay couple who want to touch in public like straight couples do, and the story of a middle-aged couple who realize the fragility of life.
When the curtain opens, the stage of the characters in the audience has presented the amazing performances of life beyond the spotlight.
