Journey to Bosnia, Return to Self

God works in mysterious ways. On the way to Mexico, I went instead to Bosnia and Herzegovina. I left a marriage in disarray only to find the roots and the possibility for new growth in a distant, unfamiliar land. I went to a post-war zone and dealt with my own war. When I returned, people would say to me, "why go so far away, what connection can 'those people' and 'their war' possibly have with us?" It was neither the facts of the war nor the history of the region that introduced me to our common bonds. It was the stories of the people I met. Their lives taught me about my life. Our circumstances may differ, but we can share our pain, our joy and life in the Spirit, however we define it.
