The Ordeal of Richard Feverel

This novel deals with the gulf between the generations, presented the hideousness of the smug family circle, and shows gloriously young love breasting the barbed wire entanglements of old conventions. All this Meredith does brilliantly, with the penetration which only the greatest possess, and with that understanding of human nature which endures as fame.
