Everyone wants to know the inside story about special elite groups that we have all heard about. There have been special teams that have achieved amazing feats. Recently everyone was clamoring to learn more about Navy Seal Team #6 after the successful Osama Bin Laden mission. However, the Army Delta Force is most likely the best know and widely recognized for its stealth accomplishments.
All large agencies in government and business have some type of elite group that is called upon to handle the toughest and sometimes the most sensitive matters faced by that group. The Los Angeles District Attorney's Office has such a designated group called the Major Crimes Division that is known in some circles as the DA Delta Force.
When police detectives have extremely complex criminal cases or some type of high publicity case they take it to this special Division. There the new case will be handled by an extraordinary prosecutor who will prepare the case for trial and continue with the case all the way through sentencing. These prosecutors are the best of the best with extensive experience and unrelenting tenacity.
While working for the DA's Office for 43 years I had the opportunity to deal with the prosecutors assigned to the Major Crimes Division. However, for my last decade before retiring I worked closely with their elite prosecutors. My role was to assist them in preparing and presenting their cases to a jury. In my capacity, I became thoroughly familiar with the facts of their cases as well as aware of the behind the scenes courtroom drama.
While working on so many cases from the Major Crimes Division, I became aware how remarkable these prosecutors were. They would be able to spend months in trial and still have the drive to continue to vigorously prosecute their cases. For years I had marveled how these prosecutors could and did meet the challenges they had to confront on a daily basis.
After writing over a dozen True Crime books, I heard from my readers that they wanted to know more about the so called big cases and how they were solved and what the attorneys went through in the courtroom. That was when I came up with the idea of selecting one of the outstanding prosecutors in the Major Crimes Division and giving the reader a chance to follow that attorney as they prepare and try their important cases. What I have done is select a number of their high powered cases and show what they had to do to prepare for trial. Then we follow the attorney into the courtroom and watch how he or she presents the case to the jury.
The first book of this DA Delta Force series was titled Prosecutrix Fight for Justice in which it followed prosecutor Eleanor Hunter while discussing six of the major crimes cases she handled. This new book The Top Gun Prosecutor follows the same format but this time the spot light is focused on prosecutor John Monaghan. What makes him so remarkable is the fact that he knows how to thoroughly prepare a case so that when he walks into court and says, "Ready for the People" he means it.
Because of his vast experience handling homicide cases he knows the Law inside and out. Besides being a brilliant litigator he has developed an incredible working relationship with homicide detectives in which he is able to help solve many Cold Cases by thinking outside of the box.
However, this prosecutor, John Monaghan, has another hidden talent that becomes apparent when he is in front of a jury. He possesses a downhome rapport with the jurors. Most attorneys will speak down to jurors however, John relates to jurors like he were talking to them as a neighbor.
When he walks into court he exudes confidence however avoids publicity and prefers flying below the radar. He is willing to take on the toughest cases especially the ones that generate little if no news coverage.
I have worked with hundreds of first-rate attorneys but John Monaghan is in a league by himself. This book will review six cases he took to trial to give you a close up look of what really happens in the trenches of the criminal justice system. But most of all you will have the opportunity to see how some of the most violent and brutal murderers meet their match when they find themselves in the cross hairs of the TOP GUN PROSECUTOR
