Snowden Andrews was perhaps the Confederacy's greatest artillery commander. He raised Andrews' Battalion at the outset of the American Civil War and commanded it until he was severely wounded in battle in 1862. Though surgeons were convinced that he was mortally wounded, with his abdomen badly slashed open, he calmly asked them to try to save his life. Miraculously, he survived to return to command.
Later in the war, he was sent to Europe to try to obtain plans for new artillery weapons. That story is told here as well and is one of the little-written-about aspects of the Confederacy.
Every memoir of the American Civil War provides us with another view of the catastrophe that changed the country forever.
For the first time, this long out-of-print volume is available as an affordable, well-formatted book for e-readers, tablets, and smartphones.
