Robert Chambers became popular as a writer of several romantic novels, but he is now best known as the author of, The King in Yellow.
This book is separated into two parts. The first section of short stories has an eerie, other-worldly feel to them; it also contains a collection of very short pieces and two rather strange and beautiful stories of love and time, loneliness and death.
The earlier stories are all coloured by the background presence of a play, "The King in Yellow' itself, which corrupts those who read it, and opens them to horrible experiences and to visions of a ghastly other world, lit by dark stars and distorted skies.
But the stories in the second half are essentially love stories, strongly coloured by the author's life as an artist in France.
Highlights of this edition are:
• 17 illustrations and photos.
• A free web link to the full-length audio recording of the book – to either listen to online, or download.
• It is formatted for ease of use and enjoyment on your nook reader.
• An active (easy to use) Table of Contents listing every chapter accessible from the nook menu.
• Perfect formatting in rich text compatible with nook's Text-to-Speech features.
• Plus, about the Author section.
• 388 pages (in the nook format) for a very low price.
This book is unabridged and appears as it was first intended. First published in 1895.
