Not Your Father's Retirement

The concepts that are discussed in this book are not simply just "theories," but rather tried and true facts - because the changes in how we retire have been true for my family, too. My own father worked as a union sheet metal worker. When he retired, he had a pension and an annuity. My grandfather worked at Fleischmann in Peekskill and passed away at a young age. My grandmother worked at Reader's Digest and received income from a work pension/annuity that paid her until the day she passed.

But today, things are different. Even though just one and two generations ago my family could rely on the income from pensions, we now have 401(k) plans. Even at Mahoney Asset Management, we have a 401(k) plan. And, if our plans aren't properly funded, as well as supplemented with additional sources for retirement income, you and I may all run the risk of running out of income at a time when we need it the most.
