This book is set in today's world, and follows the development and use of a newly designed miniature machine, designed to clean up an underwater oil spill in the Arabian Sea.
In addition, two countries compete for the contract to build these miniature machines, but the competition is fierce because two countries hate each other. One of the results of this rivalry is a nuclear bomb, destined for the largest city in India.
And drought plagues China. Desperate for water it secretly begins a project to steal it from another country, but it must do so using one of the largest machines on Earth. There is no water shortage in Europe, however, where well drilling operations have been experiencing bizarre accidents caused by the shifting rock layers. These layers produce spectacular pressure buildups that cause many unexpected consequences.
And if that isn't enough, all organic life is disappearing in a large section of ocean, and there is no reason or logic that can explain it. Be forewarned, because somewhere in the limitless darkness of the deep ocean, a new kind of monster waits.
