Saint Cyprian was born in 200 AD in Carthage. He was baptized late in life, at age 35, and in 249 ascended to the rank of bishop. Starting in 250 AD the Roman empire subjected Christians to numerous severe persecutions. Saint Cyprian escaped a number of them, but was eventually executed by the state in 258 AD.
Saint Cyprian is famous for his pastoral skills and his defense of the faith against the heresies of his day. He wrote in Latin and was considered perhaps the greatest Christian Latin teacher until the time of Jerome and Augustine, 100 years later.
Include in this complete collection of his works are:
1. An Introduction by J. Chapman
2. The Life and Passion of Cyprian by Pontius the Deacon
3. The Epistles
4. The Treatises
5. The Seventh Council of Carthage
