TOKEN'S QUEST

Ryla Melor accidentally escaped the Mist Riders, but she revels in her new-found freedom from the trouble-finding elite soldiers. Who knew pitch-fork wielding citizens were a good thing? She is now determined to finish her mission to deliver a letter of great importance for her family and then find said family, wherever they were hiding, all the while trying to get a Guirgen on the wannabe-king's council. Of course, if she doesn't accomplish the Guirgen's directive, she's dead, so... great incentive.

Unfortunately, Ryla has no luck whatsoever. Her second Token unexpectedly skews, saving her life but causing a bloody, gory mess on the road. But she doesn't have time to worry overmuch about her body and mind betraying her, since the misadventure causes her recapture, forcing her back in the presence of the Mist Riders.

Resigned to her current fate, she throws her weight behind the wannabe-king and his people, trying to help where she can without getting killed in the process even as Dormuir and the resistance shatter into factions determined to kill one another and tear the country apart.

In the end, Ryla and the Riders are forced to put aside all of their mistrust and rely on each other to survive tornados, assassins, and a flame throwing Dux as they break from the resistance and attack Aldalake, where all the crazies come out of the woodwork. But through it all, Ryla knows she will have to eventually abandon her new friends in favor of loyalty towards her family to finish her mission.
