St. Gregory was born in 335 AD, and was the younger brother of St Basil the Great. Like his brother he received a good education and later became a professor. In 372 his brother ordained him bishop of the city Nyssa.

As bishop he was an advocate for the true Christian doctrines against the Arians who taught that Christ was a created creature. His opposition resulted in him being disposed of his bishopric office, by his enemies, although he was later restored.

St. Gregory was a leading participant in Second Ecumenical Council, where is his oratory skills were in high demand. He died in the year 395 AD, but he has left a wealth of writings. For these he is honored as a 'doctor of the church' in the Roman Catholic church, and in Eastern Orthodox church he is held as one of three great teachers (the other two are St. John Chrysostom and St. Basil).

The following books are included in this collection:

1. Against Eunomius
2. Answer to Eunomius' Second Book
3. On the Holy Spirit (Against the Followers of Macedonius)
4. On the Holy Trinity, and of the Godhead of the Holy Spirit (To Eustathius)
