From the author of Ian Trevelyan comes another humane and gently entertaining novel about the trials and challenges of being an outsider.
When David Madison goes to St Donat's Abbey, a leafy public school in the heart of the Essex countryside, he seems to have a glorious future ahead of him. He's bright, a keen sportsman and a loyal friend. The only thing is that he's on a scholarship and for that a few of his peers are unable to forgive him. When David's beloved Classics teacher falls ill and is replaced by a much younger colleague, his enemies find a new ally in the snobbish and sadistic new master and David's school life takes a decided turn for the worse...
A tender portrait of friendships made and friendships tested, David Madison will surely win this wise and accomplished writer a growing band of devoted readers.
Born in County Kildare, Ireland, Dermot O'Hanlon qualified as a doctor and then settled in England in the 1950s. He worked in a number of eye hospitals across the country, then in an Ophthalmic Medical Practice. After his retirement in 1986 he returned to live in his native country, in County Wicklow. He published his first novel, Ian Trevelyan, with Book Guild Publishing in 2013.
