This is the story of the struggles of a young boy in the late-19th Century, when most young people were had to make their lives through hard work, without any family support or any other external help.
Left penniless after his inheritance is lost by his guardian sixteen-year-old Rodney Ropes leaves boarding school and tries to find a way to make a living, continue his education, and maintain his integrity in 1890s New York.
In order to succeed, Rodney must overcome adversity, dishonesty, villains and bad luck to succeed. He Rodney is all alone, and goes to New York City to join the corps of homeless children during the 19th century. He starts working as an errand boy, but the price for false accusations cost him his job.
