A dystopian science fiction six-part tale detailing just about everything that could go wrong for th e city of London. Includes:
The Four White Days -- A tale of London In the grip of an Arctic Winter--showing the danger any winter might bring from famine, cold, and fire.
The Four Days' Night -- The story of how London reacts to a deadly fog that turns day into virtual night for four long days.
The Dust of Death -- How a great plague strikes London in the early twentieth century.
The Bubble Bursts -- A stock market scare turns into a completely disjointed city of London for two days.
The Invisible Force -- What could happen in the future for London when the Underground has been completely undermined with tunnels for the electric train system, and what could happen if thre is an explosion!
The River of Death -- London is in deep peril as plague germs infest the Thames River flowing death to all parts of the city regardless of social strata.
This book also contains the novella, The Island of Shadows, a tale first printed in Illustrated CHUMS magazine as a serial between April 2 and July 9, 1892. It is believed to be White's first foray into the world of science fiction and predates his Doom of London by a decade or more. There is some debate about who the actual author was as there appears to have been another Fred White writing in those days. Whoever penned this, it is a fascinating look into England and London more than a century ago.
