What would happen, if a generally well-meaning but essentially unstable young man--a misfit compared to the usual idea of the ideal medical student--somehow slipped through the screening process and got accepted into medical school? What would it take to push him over the brink?
Edward is such a misfit--a socially isolated, underprivileged young man who, in a naive attempt to help his little brother with cancer, enrolls into an elitist medical school to try to find him a cure. But this protagonist has a dark, unstable side, and would normally not be fit for such a noble profession. Immediately, some of his colleagues find him strange and unacceptable, and tease him mercilessly in their attempts to rid the school of the likes of him... He cannot tolerate their abuse and reels with each scalding criticism and accusation; he finds himself pushed relentlessly, until he is at last hovering near a precipice of disaster.
He gets a gun, tries to get a semi-automatic, fantasizing striding into the medical school auditorium with these in each hand as he surveys the scene....
Love...friendships...successes and failures with his first patients...all play out in their intricate complexity, as he weighs his options in his whirling mind....
But will he do it...?
