As if a dim light had been switched on, the images suddenly were there, initially faint, then clear and vivid. A little shock of anxiety shot through him. With extreme effort, he fought down that frightening emotion. Arthur's face twisted with the strain. He forced himself to concentrate on the weird shapes. Expanding, then contracting, the multicolored patterns flashed off then on again. Dimmer then brighter. Turning and churning, they moved ever faster. Somewhere in the back of his mind a door had opened, or perhaps a barrier had been broken. Now, garbled sounds accompanied the racing symbols. He became caught up in it, drawn into it. The sights and sounds were trying to focus together in a way he had not thought possible. Eventually they merged, becoming one indescribable impression. There were ethereal voices, within isomorphic structures. He had exceeded the threshold of sensory perception.
