Founded primarily by English-speaking Europeans, but with millions of German immigrants, the United States found itself divided by the Great War in Europe. Even before the United States entered World War I in 1917, there were passionate arguments among the American people about the conflict. Books and pamphlets were published in the U.S., arguing for (or against) the German cause and its actions on the European battlefields.

This collection reprints eight books published between 1915 and 1918, taking both pro- and anti-German stances. Not seen for a century, these works offers a view of the Great War as seen on the home front, showing a conflict that was as much a domestic issue as a military one on the battlefields of Europe.
