Despite a childhood of poverty and neglect, Kit is determined to persevere. Waiting for her brother Red to return from war, their childhood friend, Tommy, stands close by Kit's side. The Red Rooster Saloon is a family treasure where Tommy tends bar and Kit finds her prey -- the next man to conquer. Both take comfort in beauty and recreation of the Texas countryside at Refuge Ranch, while fighting life's most implicit war. The war within one's self.
