While I had originally thought about going to the University of Illinois at Urbana, Illinois because of a young lady who lived there and belonged to the same denomination as I. But this had not worked out as of the summer before my senior year. So, I could have stayed at home and attend college in my home town. Yet, I decided to go anyway.
Looking forward now from this time to the things that I would need to be able to do as an adult, I can see some lessons that I needed to learn. During this four and a half years of college life, He made sure that I did exactly that. It was all part of His plan for my life.
I completed my bachelor's degree in January, 1965. The next month, I attended commissioning service which made me a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force. About a month later, I received orders sending me to Biloxi, Mississippi, requiring me to report April 30 of this year.
After my arrival, I begin needing some of the things I had learned in college as I became active in church. And yet, God had more lessons to learn as well as to apply. This involved a lady who lived about 180 miles north of me. She would become my soul mate.
This volume begins September 1960 as I began college and ends March 1969 when I was honorably separated from service. The next volume begins where this one ends. It ends January 6, 2003 after 11 PM. My wife's body had been taken from our home to go to the local funeral home.
