A clinical social worker in the North Carolina mental health system, Anna must learn how to treat regressed sexual offenders. In her personal life, she is caught between responsibility for her daughter's attack, her subsequent wish for revenge, and her belief in forgiveness.
Sixteen years later, as her daughter, EmmaGrace, tries to remember exactly what happened when she was six, she is confronted by the same dilemma as her mother was: her wish for justice and her hope for redemption.
