A Poem of Historical relevance about America's past and present dealings with the denial of individuals rights of those of color with the same Nationality. It took a football player(Colin Kaepernick)refusing to stand while the National Anthem was being played to put the spot light on the wrongful Police brutality and cruelty toward people of color to start a National discussion on this issue in America and the World.
Intro First Paragraph
Land of the Free
Is where everyone yearns to be
It is where the slaves worked for free
It is where the thirteen Amendment in eighteen sixty-four made him free
It is where my father as a sharecropper pick cotton on his knees
For very little money, so we can enjoy our prosperity.
It is where he was denied schooling from picking cotton in the fields on both knees
to help my grandfather put food on the table to feed the Family.
But he made sure I would not be denied my education to get a P.H.D
Son of a sharecropper, "Mr. Eddie Lee
Who was proud of his Ancestry in our History to make America a Great Country
So long before Kaepernick took a sideline one knee
My father kneeled on both knees daily to keep this Country strong and Free.
While I do not condone Kaepernick taking a knee
It is within his right as an American who is free under our Constitutionality.
Oh, come on it is just a game of football, where each player has the possibility of developing C.T.E., surely if this Great Nation (America) can put a man on the moon, we can find a cure for C.T.E. in the twenty-first century.
