Preacher Joe Winters sees trouble ahead when Hank, a young man in his congregation, asks Winters to marry him and his pregnant girlfriend. Winters grows alarmed when he learns that Hank's girlfriend is a Negro. In Florida in 1961, interracial marriage isn't simply frowned upon - it is illegal. Yet the couple insist they want to do the right thing. How can Winters find a way to please both man and God? And if he can't, who will he choose to obey?
