Ludwig Holst is the leader of a unit of cuirassiers in Lord Gustav's Third Army. The Third is stationed along the King's Vein river, waiting for the end of the campaign season and hoping to enjoy the last days of summer. But when Holst and his men go on a scouting mission they discover that there is more to their enemy than they originally thought, and Holst soon finds himself leading his men on their most dangerous mission.
