Two Kinds of Scholarly References

Sometimes people are referenced as a way of a referencing ideas; and sometimes ideas are referenced as a way of referencing people.

Works of the former kind are content-driven and therefore legitimate; works of the latter kind are politically driven and therefore illegitimate.
