The Cauld Lad of Hilton tale is based on the English legend of 16th century about the groom-boy named Robert Skelton who was murdered. According to one version, he was killed for a love relationship with the lord¿s daughter. According to another ¿ he forgot to prepare the horses for the long way, and the Baron got angry, killed him and hid the body.
