In Ireland of 453 A.D. who could have imagined that a female slave would be the first to create convents, to bring about the creation of schools where boys and girls would be taught together, to get women to sing the Mass together for the first time, to win her own freedom and her mother¿s, and to cure disease and to care for the sick and the outcasts? Brigid of Kildare would be sainted by the Catholic Church for these deeds, among others, and her timeless story is worthy of celebrating today.
