The Little Match Girl

"The Little Match Girl", one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved fairy tales, is narrated by Ewan McGregor, OBE for the GivingTales project.

On a cold New Year's Eve, a young, poor girl tries to sell matches in the street. She is already shivering from cold and early hypothermia. Still she is afraid to go home, because her father will beat her for not selling any matches.

"The Little Match Girl" was released in December, 1845. The original title in Danish: "Den lille Pige med Svovlstikkernee".
