Country Style U.S.A.: Season 2

"Thirteen installments of Country Style U.S.A., a syndicated television series which aired in the late Fifties and featured a number of leading country music artists performing as part of a recruitment drive for the United States Army, are collected on this DVD release from the German Bear Family label. The material on Country Style U.S.A.: Season Two has been transferred to disc in its original full-frame aspect ratio of 1.33:1, and while the quality of the source materials has its ups and downs (and none of the episodes can be called perfect), they're not at all bad considering the rarity of the series, and the transfers are as sharp and well-detailed as the film elements permit. The audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital Stereo retaining the original monophonic sound mixes, and the quality is generally good; like the images, it's clear these episodes were not given the most careful archival treatment, but the live recordings were done with care, and these unique performances were well worth preserving. The performances are in English, with no subtitles or multiple language options included. No bonus materials have been included on this release (outside of a booklet with photos and biographies of the artists), but there's still plenty here to appeal to fans of classic country music, and Bear Family are to be thanked for making this rare footage available."
