Country Style U.S.A.: Season 3

"In the 1950's, the United States Army's recruiting organization sponsored a syndicated television series, Country Style U.S.A., which featured leading country music stars alongside commercial spots pitching the opportunities available to men and women in the military; this DVD from the fine German reissue label Bear Family Records features thirteen episodes of the series' archives. The material on Country Style U.S.A.: Season Three has been transferred to disc in its original full-frame aspect ratio of 1.33:1, and while the source materials are hardly pristine, the flaws rarely detract seriously from the performances, which for the most part are live and otherwise unavailable. The audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital Stereo (retaining the original monophonic sound mixes) and similarly the quality is good given the vintage of the recordings and the less-than-perfect condition of the prints. The performances are in English, with no subtitles or multiple language options. No bonus features are included, though the accompanying booklet is filled with rare photos and biographies of the performers. Given the scarcity of the performances on this set, Country Style U.S.A.: Season Three is full of pleasant surprises for fans of vintage country music and has been put together with Bear Family's usual degree of care and attention to detail."
