Joseph G. VanDenHeuvel sees prayer as God's gift: "Flower petals on my path, pure joy in my heart." Ninety Prayer Images embodies a two-pronged approach to promote peaceful meditation: each prayer is accompanied by a black and white photograph celebrating nature, God's exquisite creation. Intermittently the story of the prayer's development is included. "Under a sky of blessing I walk. A carpet of gifts beneath my feet," writes Joseph.

"This book was produced by a psychologist-photographer of deep faith and prayer, a member of the cloud of witnesses on prayer. With your heart, dwell in and commune with the Absolute Mystery whom these photographs and prayer-poems evoke, like a finger pointing at the moon," says Dr. Peter C. Phan, the Georgetown University theologian.

"Writing these prayers and taking these photographs has been a privilege I could never have imagined," says Joseph. "It brings to fruition much of what I have done in my life as a spouse, a father, a psychologist, a photographer, a human being."
