"Gaetano Donizetti's comic opera of love, marriage, and finance comes to the screen in this vintage performance from the archives of Italian television. In Don Pasquale, the titular royal figure is disappointed to learn that his nephew Ernesto has set his heart on marrying a penniless widow. Deciding his estate deserves a more fitting heir, Don Pasquale marries Norina on the advice of a friend who tells her she's sweet, modest, and eager to have children. However, marriage soon changes Norina's disposition, and before long she's on a wild spree of big spending and wild living that threatens to bankrupt her husband.
