The action twists through the Black Hills of South Dakota, the corridors of power and influence in Washington, and deep into the appalling abuse of brainwashed street children as Rick sprints to find answers before a bullet finds him.

In the chaos of the 1973 standoff, they discover a religious cult working to provoke another blood-soaked massacre by shooting at marshals and Indians alike. When Rick promises a dying veteran to return a sacred relic to its tribal home, the cult is on their trail, and only Rick's speed and skill can keep them alive. 

After a quiet winter in Montana, courier Rick Putnam and Eve Buffalo Calf make a quick stop on their way back to Washington—at the tiny crossroads village of Wounded Knee.
